Nell'attuale orizzonte di riferimento, non solo teorico, sono intervenuti dei cambiamenti epocali che ci obbligano a riflettere sulle possibili implicazioni all'interno del Design e dell'Arte. Anche per questo ci sembra importante aprire un Forum su cui confrontare le diverse e possibili posizioni.
Vorrei solo sintetizzare i mutamenti che a mio avviso sono intervenuti nelle societý occidentali contemporanee.
a) Da una societý di produttori basata sulla "conformitý" si Ë passati a un'altra di consumatori incentrata sull'"adeguamento";
b) Conseguentemente si Ë abbandonato un mondo regolato normativamente per abbracciarne un altro ove le parole d'ordine sono "essere sempre pronti" e "bisogna cogliere le opportunitý cosÏ come vengono";
c) Dal concetto basilare di salute che disegna i confini tra normalitý e anormalitý si Ë arrivati a quello di fitness in cui viene disegnato il potenziale di espansione della singola persona; ovvero da uno stato di sudditanza alla presunta oggettivitý si Ë balzati sul carro della esperienza soggettiva a tutti i costi;
d) Dalla soliditý identitaria si Ë travalicato in una perenne allerta instabile dell'identitý;
e) L'insicurezza e l'incertezza della notte vengono esorcizzate dai rituali giornalieri dello shopping.
Al termine di questi brevi appunti sull'attuale situazione di mobilitý e flessibilitý di identificazione che caratterizza questi anni di "shopping around", mi sembra importante gettare sul tappeto verde di questo tavolo da gioco che si chiama Forum alcuni nodi cruciali, rigidamente non in ordine di importanza, che si prospettano a chiunque si occupi, direttamente o no, di arte e design.
- identitý e polifunzionalitý dell'oggetto;
- funzione sociale, individualitý e corrispondenza del progetto, ovvero etica del progetto;
- conformismo stilistico come cospirazione commerciale;
- problematiche legate alle alternative alla distribuzione normale (e-commerce ad es.);
- retorica del semplice e affermazione dell'essenzialitý;
- sperimentazione e utilizzo di nuovi materiali e tecnologie innovative;
Questi sono solo alcuni dei possibili temi e problemi che ci troviamo di fronte attualmente. Spero vengano moltiplicati dai contributi di chi vorrý gentilmente partecipare a questo Forum.

Currently on the horizon towards which we orient ourselves, the epoch can be
seen to be changing, and not only theoretically. These changes oblige us to
reflect on the possible implications within Art and Design. It is also for
this reason that we think it is important to set up a Forum within which the
differing and possible stand points can confront themselves. I would like
now to synthesise the changes which in my opinion have contributed to the
contemporary status in western society.
a) From a society of producers based on "conformity" we have changed into
one of consumers centred on "adaptation";
b) Consequently we have abandoned a society full of norms and rules and
embraced another where the order of the day is "be ever ready" and "grab the
opportunity when you can";
c) From the fundamental concept of health that drew the borders between
normality and abnormality we have arrived at that of fitness where the
potentiality of expansion of an individual person is measured; or rather
from the state of subordination to the presumed objective we have leapt off
the wagon of subjective experience at whatever the cost;
d) From a firm sense of identity we have passed over to a perennial
alertness of our insecurity;
e) The insecurity and uncertainty of the night are exorcised by the daily
ritual of retail therapy.
At the culmination of these brief notes on the actual state of mobility and
flexibility of identification that characterise these years of "shopping
around", I think it is important to throw onto the green baize of this
gaming table that is called Forum a few crucial conundrums, decidedly not in
order of importance, which await all who busy themselves, directly or not,
with art and design.
- identity and polyfunctionality of the object;
- social function, individuality and coherence with the project or rather the ethic of the project;
- stylistic conformity as a commercial conspiracy;
- problems related to alternatives to normal means of distribution (e.g. e-commerce);
- rhetoric of simplicity and affirmation of essentiality;
- experimentation and use of new materials and innovative materials;
These are only a few of the possible themes and problems that we currently
find ahead of us. I hope they will be multiplied by the contributions of
those who we cordially invite to take part in this Forum.
